On the trail of the world champions

For two weeks, fans and athletes enjoyed an unforgettable celebration of winter sports during the 42nd Alpine Ski World Championships in Schladming, an event that made history in so many ways, not least because of its atmosphere, hospitality, and sportsmanship. In the future, the Schladming-Dachstein region will happily host large ski festivals such as this again.

Annually in January, world-famous slalom racers dash down the finish hill of the Planai flanked by enthusiastic groups of ski fans. It is at that time that something quite extraordinary happens in this small, quiet town at the foot of the Planai. The Night Race is one of the true classics of the alpine ski sports calendar. As the sun sets, the Planai stadium transforms into a witch’s cauldron of cheering spectators. The Night Race: It’s not just a skiing event, it's the party highlight of the year in the Schladming-Dachstein region, one of the biggest spectacles you will encounter anywhere in the Alps.
